First of all, how has it been almost an entire month since I posted? Where has the time gone?
Last week we were gone in Newport, Oregon with some great friends and family. I've been meaning to sit and blog about it, but life has yet to slow down. We did so much that I decided I am going to post a few shorter blogs about it. Might as well start with the most important aspect of going to Newport. Wave Jumping!!! Since I was Kelsey's age, possibly younger, it has been a tradition for Shani to drag me out into the waves, although honestly, she wouldn't have been allowed to leave me behind anyway. You wade out to about your waist and then try to jump the waves. The middle of June is still slightly chilly for ocean fun, but we did it anyway. Besides, after 5 minutes, you were so numb you couldn't feel the water anyway. This year was the first year that Kelsey was able to come out with us. She's so light that if we weren't holding her, she'd have floated away with the first wave.
We ended up going in the water on day 1 and it ended up being our nicest day, weatherwise. When we decided to go down to the beach, I was not planning on going in the water so I was not in a swimsuit. I was wearing a white tank top and black capris. Let me point out that a white tank top is not adviseable if you are planning on getting wet. Especially if like me, you are far from being in perfect shape and the shirt clings to all the wrong places!
Unfortunately we were only able to go out in the waves one time. We were also unable to get Carrie out because she wasn't there the first day. This is very sad because Carrie has been teased for many years about her reaction to wave jumping. She loves it, don't let her tell you different, but she seemed to think we were going to let her drown. :) She would yell out curse words and her favorite "I have a calling card and I know how to use it." She was going to call her mom and ask to come home. Needless to say, as soon as she arrived at our camp site, we asked if she remembered her calling card. LOL.

I am posting a short video clip of us out in the waves. If you watch Kelsey you can see she took us very literal about "wave jumping" and practically clears the waves.
Shani and Kaitlyn in the waves
My mom and Braden wave jumping.
The four of us (Shani, Kaitlyn, Kelsey and me) and I just realized... Mom, where were you?
Oh wait, there you are.... you trying to stay dry?
Hmm... how did that work out for you?

You forgot to mention that I was 12 when I making those threats! And I wasn't afraid of drowning, I was afraid of sharks!
